This is the first mitzvah in Rambam's Sefer HaMitzvot and the twenty-fifth in Sefer HaChinuch. It is a positive commandment, and it is drawn from the opening line of the Ten Commandments — Shemot, the Book of Exodus, chapter twenty, verse two. The mitzvah itself is simple to state and difficult to live: to know that there is a G-d.
